  • The presentation will discuss the U.S. government’s equities in 6G and how that impacts R&D prioritization. Key areas of interest of the U.S. government will be discussed, along with efforts thus far to shape 6G research and development.

6G Standardization

6G Standardization in TTA

  • Yong Jun Chung, TTA, 6G Forum, Qualcomm
  • This presentation will introduce Korea’s ICT standardization system. It will provide an overview of TTA’s 6G work program activities such as: TTA standardization by Technical Committee (TC11), 6G standard research laboratory, 3GPP operation and international cooperation, 6G standard strategy map, etc. The presentation will also close with a proposal for future standardization cooperations.

6G in 3GPP: Initial Discussion

  • Wanshi Chen, Qualcomm
  • 3GPP is in the second phase of 5G standardization and is increasing interest in 6G related discussions, triggered by the liaison from ITU on 6G framework. This presentation will summarize the initial 6G discussion in 3GPP particularly related to the timeline considerations.

Open RAN

Open RAN and Network Sharing

  • Yong Hoon Kang, Solid, 6G Forum
  • This presentation will include discussions on O-RAN and its backgrounds and address how it is aligned with network sharing in real RAN deployments.In addition, this presentation will summarize discussions on the network sharing feature in O-RAN Alliance and discuss evolutions of O-RAN and network sharing in next generation.

6G and Open RAN

  • Mobile networks based on global standards have transformed industries, economies and societies across many technological generations. From the explosion of voice services with 2G to high quality mobile broadband and services for industry verticals in 5G, mobile networks have relied on specifications to drive interoperability on a global scale. With 5G, the drive for open interoperable networks has gained further impetus with the evolution of cloud technologies, hardware-software disaggregation and programmability of networks. This presentation will address how 6G will build upon these foundations and further advance open programmable networks.

  • Since unveiling six audacious goals in 2022, the NGA has embraced the challenge of advancing the North American Next G market. By posing challenging questions, the organization seeks to uncover previously unexplored perspectives and pain points across various industry verticals. This presentation will focus on how the NGA is leveraging these North American insights to develop relevant use cases and recommendations. These efforts are vital for the early stages of global standardization.

Near-Future Vertical Applications in Korea: K-UAM

  • Jae Yeol Kim, LGU+, 6G Forum
  • Korea is pushing the boundaries to commercialize urban air mobility (K-UAM), with a target set for 2025. Consortiums participating in K-UAM grand challenge are halfway through the first round and will be moving forward to the second one next year, focusing on operations in urban areas. In this presentation, we will explore the status of UAM in Korea and share experiences from a telco’s perspective.

  • This presentation will provide an outlook for the 6G Era from an operator’s perspective. This glimpse of 5G and 6G in Korea in include considerations for 6G Migration, expected use cases and services, potential ways to enable technologies and standardization aspects, as well as an overview of the architectural evolution toward AI infrastructure.

6G Technologies from the Perspective of the National Research Project

  • Young-Jo Ko, ETRI, 6G Forum
  • In Korea, the state-funded nationwide 6G research has been launched in 2021. Now the second phase of 6G research is set to start in April 2024, with a focus on practicality, user experience, and novel features beyond communication. This presentation will describe 6G research topics from the national research programs in Korea, highlighting some selected topics related to 6G wireless access.

Deterministic and Reliable Networking for 6G Radio Access Networks

  • This presentation will highlight specific use cases that represent the driving need for deterministic and reliable networking. In doing so, current 5G network capabilities and limitations will be noted and suggested research directions to mitigate challenges.

Radio Technologies for New 6G Applications

  • This presentation will introduce focused, brand-new 6G service/application features and supportive radio technologies. It will also provide technical aspects and relevant Research and Development (R&D) activities related to the provided radio technologies.

Extreme MIMO Technologies for Future Wireless Communications and 6G

  • Amitava Ghosh, Nokia
  • Based on the recently published NGA paper, 6G Radio Technology Part I: Basic Radio Technologies, this presentation will explore technology trends for future wireless communications. 6G challenges and problems scenarios along with use cases for Extreme MIMOP will be noted. In addition to this, potential solutions and research directions based on NGA publications will be outlined.

Emerging Wireless Technologies for 6G Cellular Systems

  • This presentation will present Samsung’s views on B5G and 6G use cases, spectrum opportunity, AI/ML telecom applications, and new attributes for 6G.

Driving Environmental Sustainability Priorities in 6G within North America

  • This presentation will provide a deep dive into the Next G Alliance Green G Working Group, striving to position North America as the global leader in environmental sustainability by creating a sustainable 6G ecosystem and enabling other industries to reduce greenhouse gases and energy consumption, limit land and water use, and move towards circular economy.

  • 6G will be a key contributor to North American economic growth increasing productivity, efficiency, effectiveness, creating new value propositions, business models and market segment. 6G enabled services will be imperative in bridging the digital divide, reducing Green House Gas emission, promoting higher levels of data privacy, and improving quality of life regardless of residing in metropolitan, urban, sub-urban or rural part of North America. This presentation will explore how improving quality of life is perhaps the overarching goal of 6G technology, emphasizing how 6G can enhance healthcare services, enable remote learning and telecommuting, and facilitate better access to essential services.
